I'm sick..
I’ll be honest, my brain has the capacity of a fish that’s been shaken round more than the one’s in Finding Nemo and was coming up blank on what to write about this week.
End of last week and Saturday I had some sniffles but Sunday and Monday I felt great so thought it had passed. I was wrong, very wrong.
Tuesday morning I’ve hit some interval runs and CrossFit feeling on top of the world before heading home to have a nap before a busy afternoon.
I woke up and apparently was hit by a train in my sleep and have felt like a dogs arse ever since. Whatever that feels like.
So why I am talking about that? Well EVERYONE is getting ill and navigating your fitness in this time can be frustrating so here’s a guide on how to stay on track.
Firstly, if you’re on a diet/deficit get back to a maintenance whilst your body is recovering. It needs the extra energy to fight off and you will definitely feel better for it. This doesn’t mean eat a whole pack of cookies despite that want to do that. Keep the food as nutritious as possible (with the odd bit of chocolate for the self pity)
Keep training to a minimum, rest is best to get you back to feeling yourself again. If you need to move limit it to a walk, mobility work or a light workout.
Return slowly.. it’s easy to get carried away thinking you’re back to your best but the likely hood there’s still some after affects going on and your body’s ability to take on oxygen and therefore making exercise and recovery harder.
This as much as I can offer this week as I slowly slug in to the weekend hoping to feel miraculously better next week.
