It’s sunny! After what has felt like the longest winter ever we were overjoyed to be returning from Malta yesterday to be welcomed to 20+ degree weather. It makes a huge difference, seeing blue skies, feeling the heat just instantly improves your mood. It’s also a great time to mix up your training, there’s load of opportunities to get out moving whilst making the most of the sun, this could be cardio based with running, cycling or hiking or even bootcamps, there are a few in the area. We had Baileys Bootcamp at the Norwich Fitness Festival who had great reviews and also there’s companies such as SAFY fitness who also offer this. Get out, try something new and you won’t regret it!
A Go To Exercise
This is an exercise for me that falls in to that category of I do it because I enjoy it. EZ Bar Underhand Front Raises.
They target the front of the shoulder and there’s a lot of arguments that you can get enough work on these using your chest and shoulder press variations but this gives me a different burn, I go lighter in weight and hit a higher volume (10-20 reps) normally.
I picked this up from Youtube from both Jeff Nippard and Mike Israetel and these guys know a thing about building muscle so it can’t be that bad for you!

Training for longevity
If you’ve followed me for a while hopefully you know I am big on this. I got recommended Peter Attia’s book Outlive and whilst in Malta (yes I am going to be going on for a while about this holiday!) I had it on audiobook. I’ve still got a long way to go but I am loving it so far, if you’re into the science-y side of things then you should give it a go.
But one thing that has stuck with me is the question “What do you want your life to look like at 70/80? Do your actions currently help you towards that?”
Ultimately, it’s about improving length of quality life. I don’t want to spend my last 10-15 years stuck in a chair waiting to die. I want to be playing golf, I want to be travelling the world, still able to train in the gym, still be me.
Three great markers for lengthened quality of life are bone density, muscle mass and VO2 max and exercise is the BEST for all three of these.
START STRONG PROGRAMME
I am so excited by this. It’s been something on my to do list for some time and needed my full attention so have waited until after the festival was done to get it going.
So what is it?
It is a 12 week programme designed to help people take control of their own journey in the gym. The first 8 weeks are a set programme where we go through different training techniques, set ups, exercises and super helpful handouts for you to keep and refer back to then week 9 we sit down together going through what you want your dream programme to look like and how you can construct it using everything you’ve learned. The next two weeks are then going over techniques and intensity required for results with the final week based on your feedback of anything you want to go through. Each week will have a different focus both in and out of the gym.
If you are looking for the typical 12 week transformation programme this is not for you.
If you are looking to take control of your health and fitness and tired of wasting your time in the gym not knowing what to do or how to enjoy it then this is for YOU!
